Spontaneous Tour

I stumbled on a yard sale yesterday at the McDonald Funeral Home on upper Diamond Street. Didn't buy anything (oh, there was a LOT of sheet music btw), but got a special tour of the amazing carriage barn, complete with original horse stalls

"Oats cleaner"

and working carriage elevator (I know of only three of these in Hudson):

All in beautiful original condition.
What an amazing sculpture studio this place would make.
I also got to see an interesting stash of antique embalming equipment (not for sale, and no, I didn't take pictures), as well as a coffin elevator in the main house.
Eeek.

DEC 10 update: Word is this building is being turned into a dentist's office; the elevator will be removed. I don't hold out much hope for the horse stalls, wainscot, or oats cleaner, either...

  1. Beautiful photos, Lisa. Thank you for making this historic record. Becoming history faster than a speeding record.

  2. I don't know if you have been in there lately. I installed the alarm system in the building. It's all gone now. Just office space. The only thing they saved was parts of the metal ceiling.
    Pretty sad actually.
